The group fights a long fight with their many newly aqquired allies and takes down Clunkerman. They inform the spirit authorities to be on the lookout for his reformation in the near future, just in case.
Henry and company decide to pay a visit to the deputy mayor. Henry has his heart set on being the town’s stoic lawman, and needs to pitch the idea, and there are mysteries to ask about. The mayor is quite apprehensive about the whole Sheriff plan for the moment since he isn’t actually the mayor yet and wants to secure his position before he pushes a governmental authority onto the town and risk lowering public opinion of himself, but he sounds like he’d be willing to bring the issue up again when things have settled down.
Jacob’s fake father gets the packs help to set up Jacob’s initiation. They build an arena for a fight and everyone is let in on the secret of the upcoming battle. When the time comes, they get Jacob all hopped up on drugs and convince him they’ve done some werewolf spirit mumbo jumbo to make it so he can fight his other personality.
Jacob, having run off into the wilderness, begins having encounters with with some sort of female wolf protecting her territory, while the rest of the pack figures out what they should be doing. Eventually they decide to go look for Jacob, and are quite interested in what may possibly be another werewolf in Wayward.
During his pack’s and his own stay in the hospital Henry sneaks off to finish off the last of the Houstons in intensive care while Alice is sedated and dragged off to perform surgery by the hospital administrator. Henry arrives in the room of his victims un-scrutized and surveys the situation.
Out of forest, clothes tattered and worn. Alice knows a good christian home not brimming with scorn.
The man and the woman, apprehensive at first, assumes the group to be drifters (absolutely the worst).
Alice raps on the door and the Williams take stock. It’s their local doctor, and drifters don’t knock.
After breaking their restraints in the lab and beating Ben senseless and doing morphine most of the group is present, minus one Alice Tumbolt. She finds herself at the bottom of a pit (having not yet actually had her first change) which proves difficult to climb out of, yet still has a grate at the top anyway.
Henry and Joel now find themselves in the Shadow. The way the room has changed from a clinical closet for the dead, to a festering humid fly filled hell-hole of a “morgue” is a dead giveaway. The insects buzz and bite and the smell… well, it’s a bit much. The gearhead and the knocker are confused about why there was a sudden shift, but for them, it’s just another day on the job. They head out and Joel hears a voice crying out.
While waiting outside for Ben to awaken from his first change after the battle with the Manolith and his drifters, Henry and Joel decide the best approach to the situation is to wait for Ben on the porch and see how he reacts. They fix up the porch swing and a rocking chair while they wait, and Joel, deciding that he could could use a smoke, goes into the house to search their late ally Jenkins’ body for a pack of smokes.
