Wendleton Prelude 1
Henry and Joel engage in male bonding, and Phoebe gets ate.

The mid-sized town of Wendleton, with a population of just over 4,000 is scarcely worth mention on a Texas map. Life and prosperity began to infuse the once sleepy rural burrow in 1973 when United Packing and Meyerman underwent a management change that gave David Meyerman complete private ownership of the Wendleton meat packing plant, resulting in an economic boon as slaughter and meat production quickly became the stock and trade of Wendleton’s citizenry. By 2006, Wendleton Meat Packing was a worthy competitor with major slaughterhouses in Dallas and Austin. More importantly, in 1987, it hired one Henry Helot to serve on its floor as a knocker.

Having “convinced” Creep to vacate their immediate presence after involving local law enforcement, Henry and Joel provide their statements to the summoned police officers. Tension continues to mount as the far from silver-tongued duo have trouble shaking suspicion of their own involvement, but thankfully their interlude is interrupted by a second disturbance which draws Officer Price’s attention.

Everyone's Advice: Dig in your heels

Following a highly unsuccessful revisiting of Wendelton that neither of our surly heroes is ever likely to speak of again, it is decided that sound advice and sage wisdom are sorely needed. In such an event as this Henry and Joel have only one man that they dare to turn to: the King of all Elvis impersonators and elder Uratha en meritus, Sammy Blone.

Ben Don't Be Gentle

While waiting outside for Ben to awaken from his first change after the battle with the Manolith and his drifters, Henry and Joel decide the best approach to the situation is to wait for Ben on the porch and see how he reacts. They fix up the porch swing and a rocking chair while they wait, and Joel, deciding that he could could use a smoke, goes into the house to search their late ally Jenkins’ body for a pack of smokes.

Henry and Joel now find themselves in the Shadow. The way the room has changed from a clinical closet for the dead, to a festering humid fly filled hell-hole of a “morgue” is a dead giveaway. The insects buzz and bite and the smell… well, it’s a bit much. The gearhead and the knocker are confused about why there was a sudden shift, but for them, it’s just another day on the job. They head out and Joel hears a voice crying out.
